So a telescope can be a better choice.
I came across an article recently which suggested that one cause of “blurry” images of the moon is that the moon can have dust swirling around on or near the surface – and saying that you can get a much sharper shot by taking a couple of dozen shots – I can’t recall over what time period, unfortunately – and then assembling them into a single shot, using some kind of photo stacking software. You suggest PS – i’ve had probs with that, but then I’m not using their CC version. However, stacking software like Helion or Zerene will kick a goal, and you can use them on MACRO subjects as well.

Hi Madeline,
Thanks for your feedback!
Do you mean that you get two moons in your photo?
It can happen if you accidentally fire the flash. The moon gets overexposed and blown out in your photo. Sometimes using a UV filter on your lens can also result in two moons.

Thanks for a great comprehensive article.

I got my camera out and played with the settings and then looked up. Oh, it’s cloudy. Maybe later.
